Held in Balance, two man show at the Muse Gallery

My prints will be shown alongside sculptures by Danuta Solowiej
The show runs 1 - 25th May 2025
The series of works shown are my Tempus series based on videos of contemporary dance by the Chinese dancer, Lico, used with her permission. Stills from the videos acted as the starting point for my photo etchings. The works aim to capture the striking movements of this highly skilled performer. The minimal aesthetic emphasises the shape and form of the dancer achieved in the dance. Tempus Vernam, which means ‘spring time’ was the first print in the series, created in 2023. Largo, meaning ‘slowly’ and Slow Dancing 1,2 and 3 were completed in 2024. Leggiero, meaning ‘softly’ was completed this year for the show.
Danuta works in several media and techniques but modelling and polychromy are her all time favourites. Focus on tactile aspects of sculpture is reflected in the often intimate scale of her work. In pursuit of pure form her work is devoid of superfluous details and narration is minimal. Inspiration and ideas come from looking at organic and inorganic forms, balancing familiar against unknown, trying to capture the fleeting transitional moments while remaining watchful of the borderlines.
